NEED HELP Removing Lower Unit - 1983 Evinrude 140

I have let my boat sit for 2 years. Before going out in it, I wanted to replace the impeller. So far, I can't get the lower unit to drop because something is holding the shaft inside which I can't see or get to. You really need to buy a manual before starting something like this, Richard. Since you have it started, let's try to get you to the next step.<br /><br />Have you removed the shift rod retaining screw (at the top of the shift rod, engine in Reverse)?<br /><br />Have you marked the position of the trim tab , removed it, and removed the screw hidden inside?<br /><br />Be extra careful of the shift rod while removing the foot.<br /><br />To complete this operation, you will need a manual.
