need help reinstalling lower unit

Changed my water pump now I can't get lower unit back on. It was in nuetral when I took it apart. So now the drive shaft spline is not lined up and when I spin prop it doesn't spin driveshaft. How can I get the lower unit into gear so the shaft will turn with prop?

Thanks. I actually pulled the lower unit back out enough to grab the driveshaft and twist it a bit. went right in.

NExt time put it in reverse first, then the prop locks in both directions and makes it easier to get back on.

I've seen this a few times and I don't know it it's differents year models or what. But mine doesn't lock when it's in reverse. It ratchets like it does in forward only opposite.
