need help please

i have a 1976 85hp johnson and it idols roughs and smokes and when i try to throttle it up its dies does anyone have any idea what is wrong

based little information such as did it ever run good for you, how long you've owned it , what you have done to try fix it, what plugs you're using, what fuel mix, water seperator? link and sync? check spark with a gap tester?


I'd order rebuild kits and do the carbs, run wire thru the jets, get a factory service manual, watch some carb rebuild videos on Youtube and get on it.
Change all the fuel lines if unknown age, bulb too. Clean tank.
Check compression and decarb with seafoam.

i havent own it very long the first time i took it out it ran good i used johnson evinrude mix at a 50:1 ratio then the next time i took it out i put 6 gallons of gas with supper tech mix at 50:1 ratio and it would idol rough and die when trying to throttle it the. i ran sea foam through it changed the plugs and still the same problem. thats all i have done so far
