Heya guys... New to the site looking for an emergency answer from the folks that would know.

We just bought a 94 wellcraft 210s with a 5.7 liters engine. Turned out the block was cracked and the guy offered to replace the engine.... The problem is that I don't think he put one in that is right. He put a 5.7 liter 350 in it with a 4:10 lift cam.

Will that engine and specifically cam configuration work on at the boat? I'm supposed to give the remainder of the funds tomorrow but the wife and I don't want to get ripped off. We paid 4.5k for the boat on the assumption that it was running....

Please help! Your assistane would be greatly appreciated.

Hard to give you a for sure answer with that little of information. I can tell you the cam in a merc marine 350 has .394" lift on the intakes and .404" lift on the exhaust. Important question to ask him would be where did it come from a boat or a car/truck. Ask him who installed it, him or a shop. Check it out to see if everything appears to be hooked up correctly and not a bunch of duck tape-wire ties and bungee cords. If it came from a boat then proceed to have him take you out for a spin and see how it runs. Then make your decision. It may be fine. Did you drive this boat already and find out the block was cracked? You sure every thing else works most importantly the drive and trim systems?

He installed it. Said it needs to be 'serviced' before 100% lake ready. Feels shady..... I'll get more info shortly.

Here is the link to the boat if this helps.. Has vin numbers and such.

He should have serviced it to make it 100% lake ready when installing the engine. Just reading the description in his ad you can tell he's a full of crap used car salesman that knows nothing about boats. He states it's in excellant condition then tells you it needs to be serviced. Also if you look at the prop you will see the tips of the blades are all 3 bent, especially in the 4th from the last picture. This would need to be repaired or you'll have vibration. Don't get me wrong. Overall it looks like a pretty nice boat and the price is right where it should be according to NADA. I think I would tell him to get it lake ready and take it out for a test ride just like you would take one of his cars for a test ride before buying. Once he has your money he's done with ya and you may spend your summer with the boat in the shop straightening out problems. He states overall it's in excellant condition so he should have no problem with you taking it for a test ride.

what you need to know on the camshaft is the lift duration, and lobe seperation angle....
the .410 lift is of little importance when determining if it is a marine friendly cam
too much duration and it will be a dog out of the hole.....may not even plane out...
too much valve overlap and reversion will turn your new motor into an anchor in short order

get the cam sheet from the seller. .410 lift is meaningless without duration and LSA. .410 is also fairly mild. Also, you want to make sure the cam is a marine grind.
