Im trying to clean & adjust carbs on '81 merc 90 inline 6. My carbs say WMK30 on them. got rebuild kit from dealer and float valve seat is different than mine. Mine has rubber seat, ones in kit are solid brass. The secondary float lever is shaped a little different too. Im guessing the solid brass seats are upgrade due to the reformulated fuels used today affecting the rubber?

Question: motor was running fine, just wanted to clean carbs as precaution since I dont know motor history. When checking exist float valve adjustment, mine is about 1/16-1/8 higher (held upside down) than my clyer manual shows (level=13/32"). the rubber seats show no sign of swelling (hole is actually larger than in brass seated valve) so I dont think its responsible for changing the float settings. All 3 carbs are same setting. - Should I put in new valves and adjust levers per manual, or is there a chance my manual doesnt cover this particular carb properly (wish I had merc manual). Or should I just reassemble everything like before since I wasnt having any trouble? It did start kind of hard before, and I was thinking that low float settings might be responsible for that?

Any help appreciated!!!

Mbb....the solid brass seats are correct,it was an upgrade cause of fuel.......when holding the inlet heads upside down[like yer doin] the top lever should be level like the manual says....the old seats swell an push the fuel level down, hence the odd adjustment.I always set the fuel level high inthese carbs....it helps startup and the occasional hot bog when water skiing.....if you just wanna be safe, and you got the carbs off....think about bumping the main jet size up .002"
