Just fill the pump with a good 30w oil and run till half way up,refill pump and trim till full up,refill pump and trim down, repeat as need till trim is smooth and not jerky, this system self bleeds by design..

Fazt, Not to question your expertise, but the owners manual specified those PTT units were not self bleeding, and identified a bleeding procedure.

It was my understanding that the pump system is self-bleeding but the cylinders are not. There are two bleed screws on each cylinder, one for up and one for down.

There is a good description on how to bleed the cyl's if you do a search for it here.

OK, To bleed the cylinders. Open one bleed screw on the top of one of the cylinders, next ot the zerc. Run the PTT pump in the down direction until all the air is gone. Oil will shoot out. Repeat with the other cylinder.

Now remove the cylinder mounting bolts, and face the hose connections of the cylinders up. Open the bleed screw next to the hose connection, and run the pump in the up direction, until all the bubbles are gone. Repeat with the other cylinder.

Refill the pump. Originally they were filled with 5W-30 motor oil. Unless they are now filled with ATF (see the blood red color), refill with the 5W-30.

the manual specifies to use the bleeders on the cylinders but i have found that the system will bleed itself just dont let it go too low on oil and use a tilt oil or jack oil they are about 10w

I have used the procedure I posted for years and never had to bleed the cylinders....
