I just got a 1965 pipestone ski/fishing boat?? 80 johnson same area of age electric shift nd the mice have done a number on the wires and not any idea of history of motor. Owner said it did run but sat for a number of years. Where do i start?? Is the motor worth putting money into? Were they good motors? were there big problems or things I could check before I sink to much money into it? Any and all help would be great!! Looking forward to doing some summer trips on the lakes in Iowa. Thanks so much for any posts to help!!! Brad

Start with a manual,If you dont want to buy try the library. That electric shift can be a nightmare if not properly maintained.
If the motor uses a distributor the cap and
rotor may be hard to find and expensive.
Get us the model number and we can be more specific.
