I have a 19ft Maxum Cuddy and I need some help putting a name on her. I have owned for a year. I see a lot of funny names and I like them, but I want to be original at the same time, so no "Y Knot?", etc. I like boating, astronomy, and I am in the IT profession.

Possible names:
1) "Remote" (I can work anywhere in the world, just need a computer and internet connection, duno what my boss would think lol)

2) "Fire in the Hull" (phrase from a video game I use to play and a play on words)

3) "Construction Vehicle - Do Not Follow" (see these on a lot of trucks and they don't make all that much sense to me)

I named my old man's boat "Noah's Ark" as his name is Noah and it was his first boat. I did it in a Hebrew font too. For me it is a little harder.

What do you guys think of my suggestions. I would prefer something shorter as my 19ft boat has limited real estate for a name.

Doesn't have to be funny, just needs to have some personal meaning for you.

My wife's dad died and as we were cleaning out his house, a butterfly flew in and hung out with us. It seemed like we started to see that butterfly all over, even back at our home 500 miles away. My wife half-heartedly said "hey, there's dad!" and we STILL see that butterfly all the time, out on the lake, in our back yard, etc.

So she named the boat Mariposa (spanish for "butterfly"). Not funny, not cute, no play on words, just a feminine sounding name (since boats are supposed to be females) that has meaning for her.

I don't think you need to rush it. Wait until something just works. I think it was the day I brought my boat home(it's a late fifties wooden boat that I'm still working on) my neighbors came over to see it. He said something, and the she said something, and then the clouds parted, we hear an angel chior and it was named. It just happened. Wait for it.

They are she's to me. I've really never named a boat but, she would be a she.

My mother's name was Mary Ann, I would name her "Merry Ann".....my daughter?....
"Gayla Dawn".

Good luck in your choice, hostage......and may you get out more often this upcoming season.

How about "Sea Drive" or "Re-Boot"

+1 on sea drive.

Along those lines, If you got your computer education using MSDOS like me you change it a little to SEA:\"add directory name here"

SEA:\Hostage??
SEA:\Remote... you get the idea

I don't think it is Bad Ju Ju in not naming your boat, only in RE-naming your boat. Unless you go through the proper ritual/ceremony, which as far as i am concerned, is so damned difficult and convoluted, you may as well burn the boat to the ground and rebuild it, rather than rename it.

"Deep Blue Ubuntu"???

"Sudo (something, fill in the blank with appropriate water-related choice)" Something obscure enough that only the occasional Linux user would know.
