I am going to install a 40hp OB on the back of my RIB.
This is much bigger than any outboard I have had before (25hp is the biggest I had) so I thought I had better find out the best way to install it.
The engine has the standard screw bolts on the inside of the mounting bracket. Can I reply on these alone, or do I need to use some form of other fixing too. If so, what sort should I go for - s/s bolts all the way through the transform? Also, what do I need to put on the inside of the transform where the screws on the outboard bracket touch the transform? My transform is very thick, and although I have marine ply on the outside, I have had troubnle putting it on the inside too (with my old 25hp). Do the brackets on larger outboards allow for a thicker transform?
Thanks for your help.

Tim I assume that you have made sure that your RIB is rated to carry 40 hp - - ??

As to the mounting - I would position the motor on the transom and do a visual fit check. With a 40 I would want to bolt it through the transom. Use SS bolts and large diameter washers for the inside and 3M 5200 to seal up the holes.

Boat is rated to take upto a 40hp.
Would I put a thin piece of marine ply on the inside and outside where the engine touches the boat to provide a good base to fix to?
