I have an 1985 70hp yamaha. Motor runs fine and there does not seam to be any problems. While doing some work to the trim.tilm I discovered a small rubber tube that comes out from the lower unit on the front of the motor that has been severed. The problem is, I have not idea what this tube is for or where it should be going to. Can't locate the other half. Have seached the manual and can't locate it on any drawings. Appears to possibly follow the shift rod. I have always run OMC products, so this yamaha is all new to me.

Sounds like the speedometer tube, probably don't use it, no big deal, mine finally rotted and fell off. I believe it's like a pitot tube on an airplane creating pressure for some speedos...
