Hi, my wife and I are looking at buying this Starcraft from some relatives, but they don't know anything other than it should be a '79 and has a 302 powered Merc.

I've restored an unknown 60's 21' boat with a Holman-Moody 302, a 25' '74 Bayliner Saratoga, and a 25' '68 Luhrs flybridge, and I currently have a '77 14' Arrowglass upside down on blocks with a coat of primer in the back yard lol. I'm no stranger to restoring boats but I would like for once to have a boat that works with no restoring lol.

Any help on what model this is and back ground would be really appreciated. Been out of boating for too long with retiring from the Marines and now team driving our own tractor trailer, and I really miss being on the water. Thanks guys!

It should have a Starcraft data plate on it somewhere, it should also have a HIN number on the right upper part of the transom that can help track it down.

Yeah forgot about asking them to take pics of those. I'll try tomorrow, until then maybe someone can recognize the body style, especially being glass it's not the norm i'm guessing

Looks like it might be one of the Questar models.

Scott I get what you're saying about the older boats, I know everything has a service life. But with regard to Ford powered anything, I don't see a problem with Ford engines. I've run Ford, Chevy and Chrysler inboard, and it only boils down to how well the motor is built by the person assembling it. And seeing as how all I've ever owned are Ford vehicles, i'm not the guy that'll have a bad word to say about them.

it boils down to parts availability. most of the ford parts are NLA which means for me, its a non-starter. same goes with Chrysler marine parts.

he# there are late 90's Ford EFI parts for OMG and VP that are NLA and those people with those boats are now needing to either yank off EFI and go carb with aftermarket parts or yank out the motor and transom sheild and replace with GM based marine stuff.

so anything marine related with ford, simply stay away. you would have an easier time finding parts for a Tucker Torpedo

Scott is 100% right about parts for those motors, our local junk yard that carries used boat motors and motor parts puts it right in their ads now, saying there is no Ford parts around, so don't ask!
