Need Help Identifying a sailboat

I was just given a sailboat "project" over the weekend and I need some help identifying exactly what I have. So far I know it is a 1978 Chrysler with a hull number of CBC51392M78E. The metal Chrysler tag says 244AA51392. I'm moving some photos from my iPhone to my email and they should be getting to me soon.

What I know so far is that it is a 1978 boat, hull number 51392, model M (?) manufactured in May of 1978. We measured the deck line at 17' 6". In my research so far Chrysler didn't make a vessel of 17.5 ft in 1978. What I think I might have is a Buccaneer, which is an 18' boat. However, the cockpit area doesn't look like any of the Buccaneers I've seen photos of so far. The seating is on the rails and not inside the cockpit. The cockpit is actually in two parts with the daggerboard setup in the center section. There is only a single cockpit bailer and I have seen that most Buccaneers have 2. Overall the boat looks like a Laser on steroids; longer and wider.

It is a sloop riged boat, but I only have the mast, no boom, rudder or sails. The rigging is not very heavy and I don't see any turnbuckles, just the U shaped slotted brackets for the shrouds and fore stay. I'm not convinced that the dagger board I have belongs to the boat either. The mast step has a small hook that fits throught the bottom of the mast. Across the stern is a line with the only block on the boat. This appears to be the mainsheet control, similar to a Sunfish.

I have some photos that I can't get off my iPhone right now, but will post as soon as I do. The whole boat appears to be structurally sound and I would love to resurrect this boat if I just could identify what it is.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Unfortunately doesn't sound like a buccaneer. Is there any chance of it being something like a dagger, although even the C14 is shorter than mentioned.
