I have an "eggbeater" 7.5 hp Honda 4 stroke outboard that I need to fix for a friend. I tried checking it to see if the impeller was good but seems the "pickup" for water is a small screen type and not the traditional holes that I'm used to seeing in the lower unit. My muffs don't fit ...lol. I did place a bucket under the shaft with water in it and saw nothing come out of the telltale nipple, so I'm assuming the impeller is bad. Plus I need to rebuild the carb for this engine. My main problem is.....the data plate is no longer legible..no #'s, no nothing!!! I have no clue how to i.d. this motor now to get parts or manuals for it. Is there anyplace on the engine or shaft that has an identifying mark or #'s so I can figure out what year/model # this engine is? Thanks in advance for any/all help!

Honda gives each motor 2 serial #'s...one on the frame and one on the engine block...the one on the block should be located at the bottom of the block at front of motor...check and post it if you can find it

Re: Need help Identifying a Honda outboard

Thanks for the replies.....I managed to get SOME #'s off the engine. Where on the frame would I be looking? Not sure these #'s are accurate as years of cracked paint had to be scraped away (as lightly as possible) but I'm also attaching pics. I told this guy to get the motor inside but after going to his house to snap the pics, I see he's not listening...oh well. Any information u can give me would be great!! The #'s, as best I can tell are....BF73S T60S519. Thanks, Chris

Well...as far as I can tell (using BF75S 1605519 as the serial) that would make it a 1984...any numbers on the frame would be on the bracket

Re: Need help Identifying a Honda outboard

Thanks guys!!! So I take it the #'s I listed BF73S T60s519 are no good? I see someone listed it as BF75S instead of my BF73S. Didn't know if it was right or not. Thanks. If someone can double check that for me, I'd appreciate it.

Re: Need help Identifying a Honda outboard

BF75S is correct... 7.5 hp ...the T and s in the number series are incorrect- a Honda serial number has 7 numbers after the prefix-and always have had
