I just got this motor but can not for the life of me find the serial or mod # anywhere on the thing. It has 55 Johnson Enforcer on the cover and the only plate that it has on it has data like type of fuel and cyl size ect... but on the plate it has family type # XIRXMOD45210 and on the motor I found a # 64425060 (prob some part lol ) . I was trying to find out the year on the data plate it says that it conforms to 1999 emissions .. so i am guessing it is close to that . It is a 2 cyl with large gearing. I was told it was a commercial motor. Any help would be great!!

O.B.,
No there is not anything other then that data plate which is located on the transom bracket. Would the mod or sn be stamped somewhere on the engine?

I did get the # wrong the first time thought... it should read #X1PXMOD45210 and the plate does say that this engine conforms to model year 1999 ..

Check on upper area of engine block for a welsch plug that looks like a freeze plug and see if there is a mod. no. on it.
Year model codes are as follows
1998-EC
1999-EE
2000-SS
2001-SI

You got me.I'm thinking that the end of the plate number MOD45210 must be a model number for commercial or something. One of the engine date pros will pipe in and help confirm. Sorry

Re: Need help I.D. ing new motor

I have looked everywhere on this thing for any letter codes to tell what year. It is a tiller control with rope start, two cyl , the place i got it in N.C. said it was baught at auction poss from the military it runs like a champ. I was told that it has the water drain valves since it was considered a submersable engine. It has salt water tabs on it. I went to Johnson page and went to the special motors and the one they have listed looks just like it except the advanced propelsion system, mine has a regular prop. I am wanting to order a manual but do not have a model # to do so, do they have a manual that will cover all the motors thru those years and HP rating.

Thanks
Joe
