I need some help from anyone who is retired from the armed forces. My older brother died a week ago, not unexpected. He was a 30 year career man in The Marine Corps 21 1/2 years active duty and 8 1/2 in the reserves, he retired as a E-9. His wife my sister in law really doesn't know what she needs to do to receive survivor benefits from the VA. She lives about 200 miles away and I am trying to help from my end.
I was in the Marine Corps for 4 years but I got out in 1971 and I'm not sure what benefits she is entitled to.
She has contacted the local VA office and they have not been much help, if anyone knows of a web site or a phone number that I can get information from please contact me.
He was in Viet-Nam two tours, the first time in 1965 and the second in 1975 for the evacuation of Saigon. During his first tour he was exposed to agent orange and also wounded.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for all replies.
Ray

Alderman,

Your sil can contact Armed Forces Services Corp. at: http://www.afsc-usa.com/ These folks are the best I've seen at computing ALL benefits due survivors of deceased military. ALL means VA, DoD, USMC, SS, and other survivor benefits. While they may charge her a fee, their work will be complete and accurate.

tcube - Retired AF
