Tohatsu released virtually the same thing in December of 07.

My Honda owners manual gives instructions on how to drain the Vapor Separator if you are going to do long term storage. I try not to store large amounts of gas, but w/a 115 gallon tank it is difficult some times to use most of the gas so I try to drain the tank into 5 gal cans then burn in my vehicles. It is a hassel, but still does not get the fuel out of the vapor separator.

It used to be that the largest cause of failure for an outboard were waterpump related. It ai'nt like that anymore. Most failures are carb or fuel related an generally involve contaminated fuel. That service bulletin is just a heads up.I have similar bulletins from every manufacture out there.Ethanol is a magnet towards water but that is what they are shoving down our throats and expecting us to swallow.Make sure you are useing a water separating fuel filter and avoid so called dry fuel additives. They can sometimes make the situation worse.

Hondon:

Fron reading your posts, I see that you are a Honda Mechanic...

I have had my carbs cleaned 6 times since ethenol was mandated as an addative here in NJ...

I have a RACOR fuel water separator, use a stabilizer, and keep fresh fuel in the brand new tank.

I have resolved to popping off the cowling after each use and draining the carbs...not a big deal but a pain in the neck, nevertheless. This has resolved my issue.

I came across this "heads up" bulletin and was really curious about when it was first released by Honda.

Do you remember when it was first released? I think that it was released several times, but I was curious as to the first time that you remember seeing it...

Why have those carb needed to be cleaned that many times?Once they are clean and adjusted properly they should work .If you have had saltwater contamination, you ,or whoever is doing that carb work ,will really need to look for tiny cracks in the bottom of the slow jet.One disfunctional carb will cause all sorts of problems.

Why have those carb needed to be cleaned that many times?

It is a long story, associated with deterioration of fuel with ethanol in the carb bowls...

If you would like, I can go into more detail via email on on the telephone, but there is way too much information to explain here in the forum...

Do you know when the tech tip was originally released?
