NEED Help finding year on this Mercury 50 hp

This is the only number on the motor but I cannot find out what year this is. I have been looking all over but no one can seem to help me. I would appreciate any help you guys can give me.

Thats because the number would either have 7 digits or 6 with a letter infront of the numbers and we need them all to tell the year.

I know that thoses from 1990 to 2000 are all the same, unless you took a bigfoot. So, chances are that you can swap from 85 to 87, unless they made big changes in theses model year, wich I doubt. Anyway, when it's possible, it's always a good idea to check the bolt pattern.

What's the serial # of your '85?

BTW, yours is a 1984, not a 1985. And 1985 is the model-year they introduced the 3 cyl.

You have to go through all the parts to check if there's differences but, at a glance, everything seems fine. Note that some differences may be improvements that don't affect compatibility.

OK, i go through the parts list and it will bolt on for sure but the only difference is in the pinion, forward and reverse gear, so there's probably a different gear ratio but i can't tell you how much and how it will affect engine if you choose to swap it.
