I have been searching to no avail to find a couple of used or remanufactured PCM's. New ones run anywhere from $1200 & up. Mercruiser # 863620-2.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Why do you believe you need one?

Re: Need help finding remanufactured ECM/PCM Mercruiser 8.1L

Hi there, Using the part number 863620-2 is going to slim your chances even more at finding one due to that number is no longer available as new along with there is no superseded part number to cross reference against. And from what I can tell, Mercruiser does not offer any remanufactured PCM's for the "8.1/496" engine model, only new.

If you could provide your engine serial number, that should help broaden the search a little bit, and if you'd like, i'd be willing to look a little bit deeper into finding one or two? for you along with providing you some advice where to ask both online and a few places I have in mind to call to see if they have any lying around.;):)

I doubt the place in the link below will have one, but it may be worth the call just in case as a starting point,

Re: Need help finding remanufactured ECM/PCM Mercruiser 8.1L

Thanks for the reply "Fun Times". Here is a little more to the story. I purchased this boat from an insurance auction. The boat had broken loose from mooring and ran into a jetty. It punched a small hole in the hull, about the size of a half dollar. She submerged in about 60 inches for about 5 hours. She was hauled out and the engines were pickled and all fluids were replaced. The port engine will fire, but continues to back fire through the throttle body, as if the timing is off. The starboard engine will not fire at all. Both engines have just over 300 hours. I removed the PCM from the port engine and hooked it up to the starboard, and now it will fire, but does the same thing, back fire through the throttle body. So, I know at least the starboard PCM doesn't work at all. I ordered a remanufactured PCM from Marie Engine.Com to find out three days later it is no longer available. When I bought the boat, I submitted a bid that was so low, I was certain I wouldn't win the auction. Wrong! So now I have the boat, but with limited funds available.

The engine serial# is 0M316113. I believe part # 863620R03 is for a 8.2L but guide says it will work on an 8.1L below serial number 0M316735. If anyone can Help, it would be greatly appreciated !!

Re: Need help finding remanufactured ECM/PCM Mercruiser 8.1L

You're original PCM part number was 863620T2 that has now superseded to 865365T02 and you are correct that they do offer a Factory Recalibrated PCM # 863620R03. I didn't notice that last night.

The number on your PCM 863620-2 is known as 8636202 when running the number in the computer system and comes up NLA.

And your right, all the prices are between $1000.00 to $1800.00 depending on new or Remanufactured/Factory Recalibrated.

Because your engines are MIE 8.1L HORIZ (Inboard) it will be a little more challenging to find one lying around due to not as many people part out the Inboard engines vs the High Performance type boats that typically would have a stern drive with the MCM 496/8.1 package to start out with then they remove that engine and go to a custom made bigger H.P engine.:) There is a difference between a MCM & MIE programed into the PCM.

There are two places outside of Mercruiser factory that offer some repair work to the PCM's that I know of that would be worth calling to see if they could either check out/repair your old PCM's or maybe offer some additional advice via phone such as if they have any lying around using yours as a core charge.:)

One other option might be to start calling shipyard marinas that services all boat models such as something of your size that would run an Mercruiser MIE engine model. Since Super Storm Sandy damaged more than 65,000 boats, I would think the used/salvaged parts would become a little more available sometime soon.:)

depending on where you are, there are marinas that can re-flash ECM's. the only thing different in the hardware for the 555 ECM is the programing. The ECM is GM, programing is Mercruiser specific

if it was a car ECM, I would point you to Westers Garage . They not only do ECM repairs, they also do tuning.

you could also check Arizona Speed and Marine. they do custom ECM calibrations and ECM swaps.

Re: Need help finding remanufactured ECM/PCM Mercruiser 8.1L

Thanks for the replies! My boat was not affected by Sandy. I bought the boat in Key Largo Florida. I currently live in Daytona Beach. The owners were on board sleeping when the anchor rope broke and they laid up against a jetty. Hence, it was only partially submerged for just a few hours. There was no other damage to the hull other than a hole the size of a half dollar below the water line and a 8 inch scrape on the side of the hull.

I had spoken with Jeff @ Whipple a couple of days ago. He suggested buying new PCM's. I'll contact each of the other leads and let yall know how everything works out. If anyone in the meantime comes across a solution, I'd be in your debt!

Thanks Again!

PS... Does Don S. still hang out on here? I didn't see any recent posts from him. He helped me on some engine issues several years back.

Deeply saddened to hear of Don's passing. He helped me on several issues, and caused me to get several sun burns enjoying my boat through his advice and suggestions.
