need help finding gear set....

I have a 1984, 35 Johnson, J35TELCRR. The lower unit has been changed to an older around 80 or 81. It has the Clutch with 2 rounded dawgs instead of the more common 3 squared. My pinion p/n is 322079, thats the only one i can remember offhand.

My pinion has a grove worn in it where the thrust bearing runs. I was thinking about building it up with brass or steel, and machining it back down. Ideas on that?

Or, replacing the pinion only. the forward and reverse are not in real bad shape. whats the school of thought on 1 new gear and 2 old ones running together?

I was thinking of just replacing all 3 gears and the clutch. But i cant seem to find a gear set for it. everything seems to be 1987 AR AE AT only. not sure what that means. any idea where to find a set? or would teh newer style gears fit my housing and shafts? HEEELLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPP!!!!

Best bet is Ebay but you are more likely to find a complete used lower for less than a gear set.

Last gear set I bought for mine was $329 just for the 3 gears, clutch dog extra thank you.

Maybe google it, it has been awhile but I remember spending alot of time on the computer to find a decent deal.

Also, there may be Sierra or GLM gear sets available, at somewhat lower cost. Just another possibility.
