TOOK LOWER UNIT OFF INSTALD WATER PUMP PUT BACK ON NOW IT SWARTS IN GEAR WANT SWITCH TO NEUTRAL OR REVERSE WHATS UP WITH THAT?????????????? PLEASE HELP.
Hey bigben....we need to know the make, hp, and year of yer engine. Different setups in shifting can make a wrong suggestion. Just a guess here, but I'm thinking ya' got a Merc?
BigBen..... We need to know exactly what make engine you have, the year, and horsepower. Then, we'll need to know just what you did. Obviously something is not hooked up, or hooked up wrong.
I was told to take out in forward gear. When reinstalling it would not go in so Bossman put it in neutral and we got it back in there. Could this be the problem?
Bigben,<br /><br />Did you shift into forward gear before removing the lower unit? These Merc lower units have a tendency to slip into forward when removed and are not shifted into forward beforehand. What probably happeded is, you put it back together with the control in neutral and the lower unit in forward.<br /><br />Take it back apart, put the control in forward and make sure the lower unit is in forward by turning the driveshat CLOCKWISE. The prop should turn forward or clockwise. Then reassemble. Good Luck!
