I am restoring an early 1980's Cajun bass boat. The boat has a livewell at the bow and a livewell at the stern. When I got the project, it was only half way plumbed up so I don't know exactly how it was set up now how it SHOULD be set up. I have included a drawing with some explanation. There were no standpipes in the boxes. What I am most confused about is the two brown lines and the black circle at the transom. I have a hunch that the brown lines are for the "overfill" and would have drained to the bilge, but the fittings are positioned in such a location that the boxes would only reach 50% fill and had no hose connected to them. The only thing I know for certain is the blue "fill" section and the pink "bilge" section.

Now, since I am fully restoring this boat, I am free to set this up any way I want. I don't need (or necessarily want) to do what they were originally doing. I know I am going to replace the blue line with actual marine components (including spray bars). I think I want to use a proper standpipe for the overflow/drain line (but I'm not entirely sure where the Aft box would drain to). I don't care about having a recirculation/aeration system but I'm not totally opposed to them either.

Any ideas or suggestions?

I suspect in reality that one is a live and or bait well and the other is a fish box.

My bait well has three lines:
Pump to live well.
Drain to thru hull (overboard) plugged while in use
Out flow to thru hull (overboard)

Recirculating tank. No stand pipe. Water exits through outflow

Fish box had two lines:
Pump to fish box with diverter valve.
Drain to thru hull (overboard) plugged while in use

Thanks for the thoughts dingbat. Where does/should an Aft box drain to? Draining to the bilge just seems like a bad idea, but I only have one overboard thru-hull in the stern (which is for the bilge pump). I'm not opposed to putting in another one for the box if that is the generally accepted solution, but would like some clarification on other options.

A larger percentage of boat mfg. just dump it in the bilge. If you've ever lived through a smell of a dead squid stuck in the somewhere in the bilge.... you'll understand the error of that thinking.

Fortunately, my manufacturer is a firm believer that a bilge is not an onboard sewer. I have seven thru hulls on my boat. Everything, even the drink holders, is routed overboard. To the point that the annual removal of the drain plug is limited to my winterizing routine

Here's a few tips you might be able to incorporate into your live well.
