Well I replaced my gimble bearing and bellows the other day on my new boat. Took it out on the lake and it randomly feels like really hard shift in a tuned vehicle. It shakes the whole boat. I'm hoping it is something to do with the shift linkages. I have read the stickies about adjusting it but I'm still having trouble. Is there a video out there anywhere that covers the adjustments?

I've been ALL over youtube looking for a video for months on how to adjust it... it's like looking for a needle in a haystack... and the manuals are really not that great as they cause headaches when reading them..

I'm going to take the boat out again and only have the throttle hooked up. I will manually put it in gear that way I can rule out anything with the outdrive. Does that sound like a bad idea?

Yeah that's fine - except that you'll probably need something holding it in gear, can't just shift it and then let go, it'll fall out if it's like mine. I ended up zip tying it in FWD for 4 months last year... luckily I'm on a mooring so it was easy to pull up to. I'd just cut the engine and restart to make course changes. :)
