Need help 2000 90 HP Johnson E90FPLSIG

Hi all,

Trying to put a new water pump into my johnson 90. Got all the lower unit bolts out, but can't
figure out how to release the shift lever.....something about a clip on the shift rod....can't find this
on the motor at all.

Couldn't cross that model number, does this look like yours?

Seems to be the right one....I did find the shift rod and took out the r clip...pushed the rod flush against the casting...but
its still not releasing.

there is a bolt on the other side of the linkage under the carbs that needs to be lossen first before it will release the shift rod.
