Need education on Trim vs. Tilt

I have a 1992 Bayliner Capri 2050 with the Trim and Tilt on the throttle lever. The trim up and down are on the thumb side and the tilt up and down are on the other side. Alpha 1 stern drive with a Chevy 350 crate motor.

Problem: The tilt works fine in both directions. The trim only works going down. Nothing happens when I push the trim up button. From muliple searches on this topic, it seems to point to the trim limit switch? Does that sound about right?

Question: Since the tilt works just fine in both directions, couldn't I just use that as a "trim" while under power to trim up the boat? I do realize that I would need to be very careful not to trim it up past where the limiter would normally stop it.

Thanks for any advice.

I had the same problem and all it needed was to adjust the limit switch.Limit switch is on the port side of the gimble ring.Trim gauge sender is on the starboard side.

Thanks. I'll start reseraching how to do that.

Until I get it fixed, could I just use the "Tilt" as a "Trim" if I am careful with the limits?

Thanks

It can also be a loose connection within the handle . . .

Yes, you can use tilt as long as you're careful. You can play in the driveway and count, 1, 2, 3 etc and that can give you some time limits to a certain point up from full down. Also looking and listening to prop wash and the wake is decent if you know your boat/drive combo well.
