Need Center console throttle assembly

Converting the 14' Tracker Grizzly 1448 tiller steer to remote steer! 25 HP Yamaha.

Ok, Have the center console, a small Todd model. Perfect fit for this boat. Have a seat mounted in the center, wires run to center console for lights, fishfinder etc.

Steering, wheel, steering cable, etc. installed. Remote attachment kit, on the way (converts the throttle controls from the tiller handle to cables.)

But, I'll be darned if I can find a good throttle assembly to put on this console. Ill admit, the console was a bit smaller than I expected, but I do think it is the right fit for the size of the boat. Looks good, enough room to move around etc. Plus, I already drilled holes in it so I can't return it. :D Good enough reason to keep it.

I like this one, but there is not enough room to mount it. Looked at the spec's and it ain't gonna fit. Too much "mechanism" below the surface to fit in the console.

So may have to go with the side mount (right/starboard side of center console). Which is probably best given the limited amount of space on the face of the console and inside the console.

Now, Which one to get and what cables, and probably some sort of attachment kit? I need the cables to go into the console and not sitick out the front or back of the throttle control assembly.

Am I even in the right forum?

Re: Need Center console throttle assembly

Wow, thats a narrow boat for a center console.

Cables and wiring harness are going to stick out of the rear of the controls.
They will not exit the side and enter the console, at least I have never seen any that will.

Here are some photos of how my rig was set up when I got it last year.
Control unit was mounted on an angle so the cables pointed toward the floor.

What ever unit you buy, remember you must be able to access all the functions, like fast idle control, kill switch, etc.

Re: Need Center console throttle assembly

Hey Roscoe,

Thanks for the reply.

That Grizzly may be 14' but it's a big 14! Plus, like I said the console is quite small. It actually fits the boat well. it's barely wider than the steering wheel!

Looks like you have a typical Starboard Gunwale mount assembly. That won't fit on my console, it's what I have and am returning. Theyd o make assembly's that have hidden cables that come out the side that mounts to the console, compact models that will fit this application, I just need some help finding the right one for my little console.

I will try to post a photo.

Re: Need Center console throttle assembly

Oh, one more thing. I do not need trim, or any electrical on this assembly. It is a pull start, and will remain a pull start. No kill switch (I am sitting close enough to the engine to use the factory tether). So just need the most basic assembly but preferably one that is somewhat compact. Which seems to be easy since I see a few o this site to purchase that will work, but I don't even know the right questions to ask!

Thanks for the help.

Here is the console as advertised by the mfgr.

The problem with the top mount is the amount of "stuff" below the mounting surface. About 8" Like this one. I like the looks of it. Classic stainless look, but no go without some serious manufacturing of housing.

There is enough room on the side to mount one of the side mount controls like This one

Or this one

Need help with cables attachment kits etc.

Here is the mighty beast with the console. Note, I also installed an aluminum floor in the boat. Best move I ever made. The new ones have a floor, not the old ones. boatphoto.JPG

From your original post, I thought you were looking for controls where the cables would enter perpendicular to the face of the unit.

But it appears you want a flush mount unit where the cables are concealed behind the mounting surface.

Ok, for anyone trying the same project, here is what I came up with.

Throttle lever assembly, will work on the right side of a center console, per the info given by tech support at Uflex. Cables are inside the console and can exit the unit straight down to route through the floor. Which is perfect.

Cables to fit to Yamaha

Will post photos when it is done.
