Need carb kit just to clean carb?

I need to clean out the accelerator punp area of my carb since it has some crud in it. The pump spring is corroded also (probably got water in it). Looks like someone replaced the gaskets and rubber piston not long ago-- can I just clean it all up and re-assemble or is it essential to replace the gaskets, needles, etc? Will the carb cleaner destroy the hidden rubber seals/gaskets?

This is a 2bbl mercarb on 1984 IL4.

If your careful and dont tear a gasket you should be ok. Those are pretty simple carbs.

Depending on the cleaner you use, it may dry or disolve some of the rubber seals.

I was always of the type to replace everything while im there so I dont have to do it again later.

Use a carb cleaner that you pour in and if stalls the egnine , wait 15 min. start it and run that bad boy.

--- BUT carb cleaner HURTS rubber componets ---

SO after this you have to use a TOP END lubercant
("Lucaus Fuel Stablizer" is PERFECT of this)

So u will free it up, then lub the parts so they OPEN and CLOSE when they need to.... good luck
