all the hull tags are missing
a hin is required equipment on all boats built after 1972. if it's a '76, it should have one, unless its a stolen boat. or maybe really a 1972 or older, in which case it may not have ever had a hin.
hull identification number is usually located on starboard upper corner of the transom. not always though. on my boat, the hin is located just above the stern drive, molded into the glass.
look all over the transom and even maybe on the starboard side at the very back by the transom. i've seen hin's located in various locations.
the 1st three letters of the hin will give you mfg and the last two digits the year.
