need age, help with wiring evinrude 55 selectric

i acquired this 55 hp evinrude selectric last summer. i dont know the age for sure, the model number is 55973 A and the serial # J07071. the insulation on the wiring has all but disappeared from the wires, some wires cant even tell the original color. can anyone give me suggestions on where to start. i need a wiring schematic, should prob look for a good book on the motor, someone suggested seloc, so i am going to try to get one of those. i did try to splice in new wires and got it to turn over, but got no spark, so im not sure if i got all the wires on right. are there websites that can help me too? i did look at all the postings here and didnt see anything pertaining to my particular motor. hope you can help me out. shuler79@zoominternet.net

Hi Mikey <br />Your motor is a 1969 model. I will send you a schematic. I strongly suggest that you obtain a manual for this model.

I understand this is 7 years later...but I just bought a boat with same motor...1969 Evinrude 55hp Model #55973A and was wondering if you or anybody would be able to send me this wiring diagram or any manual information for this model #...any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!

If you are going to get a manual, get the OEM one.
