I am restoring an 86 Sea Ray AJ that appears to have had it's top cap painted. The hull may have been painted as well, since the thru-hull fittings have over spray on them. I believe the hull can be easily be buffed and waxed, since there is still shine, using 3M Marine Cleaner and Wax. The top cap may require more aggressive compounding. Any suggestions on a good buffing compound and wax combination that is more agressive than the 3M mentioned above?

I’d recommend trying a heavier cut compound like 3M Perfect-It Heavy Cutting Compound or Meguiar’s Marine Compound, followed by a finishing polish and a good marine wax like Collinite 925 or Meguiar’s Flagship. Test a small area first, especially on the painted top cap, to make sure you don’t damage the finish.
