I am in the process of buying a boat .. 1989 Webbcraft Enterprise 2300. The boat weight is 3700 - 3800 lbs. The seller of this boat just bought a trailer to sale the boat. The trailer is a 1989 life time trailer tandem axle with a 6000 lbs GVWR capacity and allegedly capable to tow a boat up to 28 feet in length.
I need the trailer to be able to safely tow the boat long distances on hwys and country roads.

Questions:
1) Is the trailer to big for the size of the boat ??
2) How do I know if the trailer fits the boat correctly ??
3) How do I check if the boat fits on the trailer correctly ??
4) Any advise is greatly appreciated

The main support area's of a boat are; directly under the transom, directly under and along the keel area and directly under the stringers.
I think we are going to need some more info about the type of trailer you have now. There are a few different types; Multi roller (roller-matic), fixed roller, bunks or a combo of each and depending on what yours is will determine if your boat is being supported correctly. You are wise to ask, as many a boat has been damaged by incorrectly set trailers. Especially if it’s just been dropped on a trailer to sell! Post some detailed pics and I’m sure you will get all the advice you need from here. Good luck.

Measure your boat from the bow eye to the transom. Then measure the trailer from the bow stop to the back end of the trailer. If there is a great deal of difference (say two feet or more) between the two measurements the bow stop will have to be moved rearward that difference. If it's not adjustable that far, the transom will be too far forward and you'll have a problem with engine/outdrive possibly contacting the trailer cross member. If the bow stop can be adjusted then the trailer should work, but it will look a little strange with all that tongue length out front.

A trailer with a 6000 GVW sounds about right for your boat. Sounds way too low for something 28' long.

What is the total length of the trailer? Is there a model number? Might be worthwhile asking the manufacturer of the trailer what is the real reccomendation.

and remember to load the boat so that you have proper tongue weight, and the tow vehcle is rated to the load.

And this is the best advice you could be given.
