Re: need advice

We need a lot more info if we are to give you anything except our prejudices, Miloman.

What boat do you have? Is the Honda on it?

Are you planning to go to 40hp only because of your boat's rating?

In spite of all the hype, claims and myths 40hp is 40hp. Any properly propped and rigged 40 will do within a few % of any other properly rigged and propped 40.

Two strokes in 40hp are lighter and cheaper. Also noisier, smokier, thirstier and smellier.

Give us more info, and please don't make your entire post one sentence. It is very hard to make sense out of it with no capitals and no punctuation. :)

Re: need advice

If you have a Honda BF50 an want to go to a BF40 you willnot be saving any wt.The wt,of the BF 40-50 are the same 198 to 212 LBS.The wt.dif.is Power Tilt/Trim.As for Holeshot maybe 0 MPG takeoff 2-3 MPH Topend. I have a BF50 an is a Great eng. Now looking at Johnson the Two-Stroke 40 HP is 195 LBS 50 HP is 202 LBS. Four Stroke 40 an 50 HP WT is 240 LBS. The Four Stroke 40 an 50 are Fuel Injected. If you can Take the extra WT.These 4-Strokes are Great,Almost silent,no Smoke,Up to 50% beter Milage. Same for the Honda but not Fuel Injected. Good Luck...

your right JB. The motor is going to be a Johnston 40 I run a starcraft 16 dxl. It is only for a few months until I recieve an etec. The issue is that I have a honda 50 that has oh about 5 hours on it. Because of my sisuation I am using Johnston Evinrude products.

Hi, Miloman.

If you already have the Honda, why not use it until the E-Tek is available? I would, but you may get spoiled by the 4 stroke. I doubt that anything but another 4 stroke or an E-Tek would please you after running the Honda for a while.

Do you have job related issues with what engine you use?

A Johnny 40 twin looper from the 70s or 80s would be a good powerplant for that Starcraft.

Good luck. :)

Re: need advice

I used to own a Honda 4-stroke and was not that happy
at all with it, sure it is quiet at idle, but they all end up the same when on plane...
and it was a dog...

I now have an Evinrude, 2-Stroke DI is just as or more efficient than a 4-stroke and it is lighter meaning more performance....

This new E-Tek is the HOT set up and i have heard it is quieter than the Johnson 40HP which is a Suzuki!!!!

Never go to a 4-stroke for my boat
