Currently I have been doing a lot of trolling for northern pike, and have been having a heck of a time with twisting line. I use a 8" steel leader mad by red fox, and use 10 lbs test Berkly XL monofilimant. The lures i use the most and that cause the most twists are, Mepps scylopce number 3. What is the best line/leader set up to reduce this twisting action that my line is. I find it really annoying when i try and reel in and my line is all twisted. Any help would be great :)

Thanks a million

Belchy

Re: Need advice

There is a very easy method to stop line twist with an inline spinner. Simply put a slight bend in the wire somewhere between the blade and the eye. Also, there are plastic rudders in various sizes from about an inch on up. File 13 all those cheap swivels, most of them do not even move under preasure. Use Sampo or equivelent ball bearing swivels.

Re: Need advice

High quality ball-bearing swivels are the only answer, but even they won't completely prevent line twist when using in-line spinners. Those suckers are twist-makers extraordinaire.

The keel idea is a good one, and will help prevent twisting. Tie them above the ball-bearing swivel, and they'll help a lot.

If I'm using additional weight to get my lured down, I use keel sinkers. They will also help cut down on the twist.

Also, Berkley xl is about the limpest twistiest line I have ever used.

I use Berkely Fireline with no problems.
