Need advice on steering cables

My '82 Imperial v182 (mcm 120, alpha 1) has a lot of play in the steering. It has a rack and pinion steering setup in it. I have looked at a couple of sites that sell steering cables and all I can find is cables for outboards. Where do I need to check? Also, I noticed some no feedback cable setups. Do these really work? Oh, and I do not have power steering if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance! :D

Do you know your play is in the cable? I have one now where the play in actually in the outdrive someplace. Still trying to figure out exactly where, but I know it isn't the cable.
Just a thought.

Cables for outboards are the same cables used on IO's. They all hook up the same.

Don't expect cable steering of any kind to be as tight as automotive steering. There is always play in the steering.

The no-feed back cables work great, you can take your hands off the wheel without the boat turning one way or the other due to prop torque. It does make the steering slightly stiffer, but worth the extra money. Especially on outboards.

Play can be in the tiller arm where it clamps to the gimbal, in the end where it bolts to that, in the rack and pinion itself. It is usually not in the cable itself. If it is in the rack and pinion you will probably need to replace the helm also as you may if it is an older style that is NLA.
