I bought a used B100 (B100-1100007) Honda that looks in good cosmetic condition and ran good in the tank upon purchasing it, had a good stream of water coming out. This is my first outboard. The year on the spark plug wire looks like it says 1978.
I changed the motor oil and gear oil and put fresh gas in the tank. It usually starts on the fifth or sixth pull in a barrel. I took it out this past weekend for a test lap, ran great. The next morning I put it in a fresh water barrel to flush it out. The motor started right up as usual but idled for about 4 minutes and just cut out.
I made sure the tank valve was open, the primer bulb was tight, fuel was reaching the carb. I could not get it to start again??? The previous owner did disconnect the stop engine lead saying that it would short out occasionally, so I made sure it was not touching anything in the engine. I usually just choke out the engine to stop it (not sure if that is the best way?.)
I figured the next step would be to check the spark on both plugs. If the plugs are OK, I guess I should check the fuel strainer to make sure it isn?t clogged?
