need a tach for 87 merc 70hp - Faria any good for me?

there are so many models of tachs to choose from.

do i need a specific type of device or are they all the same electrically?

i found local guy selling Faria gauges. are they any good?

As long as its designed to work with an outboard a Faria will work just fine.

well i messed that up.

i ordered a "Tach 6000 gas inboard & I/O engines"

however on the back there is a dial with settings:
1 = 4cyl
2 = 6 cyl
3 = 8 cyl
4 = 12-pole (ob alt)


does that mean i can use it on setting #4 ??

is there a thread that shows how to modify it for outboards?
will it work but just be off by a certain ratio? ie 6000 rpm would really be 3000?
