Re: Need a ruling on this one from a Higher Authority.

SYLLABICATION: X·mas
PRONUNCIATION: krsms, ksms
NOUN: Christmas.
ETYMOLOGY: From X, the Greek letter chi, first letter of Greek Khrstos, Christ. See Christ.
USAGE NOTE: Xmas has been used for hundreds of years in religious writing, where the X represents a Greek chi, the first letter of , “Christ.” In this use it is parallel to other forms like Xtian, “Christian.” But people unaware of the Greek origin of this X often mistakenly interpret Xmas as an informal shortening pronounced (ksms). Many therefore frown upon the term Xmas because it seems to them a commercial convenience that omits Christ from Christmas.

Alden,

We are humbled. Concise, on point and timely. (4 minutes to respond, it would have taken most 4 minutes just to type it.) Thanks for sharing.

I'm with you KK. Come on Tech, I have never given you a difficult time for any of your posts. However, with responses such as the above, you are asking for it. Alden took the time to give an intelligent, legit answer, and you question his source? Your response shows no gratitude. You could have done exactly as Alden did, but you chose the easy way and then call to task a legit response...unbelievable.

At times I have thought you have been given the short end of the stick on decisions and doubt, but maybe I need to rethink my position.

I think it's a testament to JB's patience that Technospewer is still posting.

I did asked God, when was the last time God spoke to you. He is remaining mum on the subject.

There is a difference between a dictionary definition, accepted use, and the original meaning of a word, symbol or phrase. Did you ever stop to think that the right things are being done for the wrong reason.
I don't quote scripture but the early Christians new the value of assimilating the teachings of Christ with the customs and beliefs of the people they were trying to proselytize.

I don't have a source authority for my contention so I have removed it. I was operating on information given me by a student of the Bible, whom I cannot contact at present.
I guess it all depends on whom you wish to believe. Christ and a Cross, seem to have some logic. Christ and chi is a little farther stretch.
I put the or are you, to punch up the response time. Ordinarily a dictionary definition would have sufficed but the original post and question as to (edit) somehow seemed a bit coarse and I thought the explanation I had received was as good a way to point out the error of the question.
END CUT AND PASTE.

Yes, of course. Dumb question. We all know who God is. What I was interested in was which dictionary, online encyclopedia or was it his own definition. In all the googling, dogpiling and yahooing I did in an effort to document my assertion I did not find what he published.
Thank you Sir, may I have another.

If it is an answer you need from a higher authority, your best bet would be the company that makes Hebrew National Hotdogs. It says right on their packaging:"We Answer To A Higher Authority"

Because of an error in the question, you give the person with the response grief. This had more of the look of you holding another person responsible for you error.

It is a very simple question. You would have no trouble answering it if you didn't have to contend with ROWMBZL (SP) From which dictionary, encyclopdia or intenet site did you find that def?
Merry Christmas to you and a Happy New Year.

You are assuming facts not in evidence. I have not come to believe that what I said was not true. Only that I had no documentation to support it. I just finished speaking with a Baptist Minister and he suports the belief that the early Christians did indeed use the symbol to indicate their affiliation with Jesus the Christ.
(edit)
END CUT AND PASTE.
