Several years ago friends gave us a ice cream maker and to be honest it got set aside to use "someday". Mrs, Bubba is doing her spring cleaning and asked if I was ever going to use it and being the pack rat I am I said of course I will, keep it. :)

So I got the book out that came with it and there were a couple of recipe's in it but they seemed pretty lame to me. (I suspect the author was in China.) Now I am on the prowl for a few great recipes for home made ice cream and as iBoaters like a good time and are DIY types I figure some of you have to have some good ones. How about sharing?

What kind of machine? Is it one of the old-fashioned salt and hand crank types, or like the Cuisinart job with the electric motor and the bowl you pre-freeze?

Avocado Icecream! It is amazing. Though I think it taste better when freshly churned instead of hardening it, I don't care so much for hard icecream.

I got this from Alton Brown:

Ingredients
12 ounces avocado meat, approximately 3 small to medium
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 1/2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup heavy cream

Directions
Peel and pit the avocados. Add the avocados, lemon juice, milk, and sugar to a blender and puree. Transfer the mixture to a medium mixing bowl, add the heavy cream and whisk to combine. Place the mixture into the refrigerator and chill until it reaches 40 degrees F or below, approximately 4 to 6 hours.

Process the mixture in an ice cream maker according to manufacturer's directions. However, this mixture sets up very fast, so count on it taking only 5 to 10 minutes to process.

Ah, I'm not a big chocolate fan for Ice cream. more a fruit guy.

just make some basic vanilla then and put whatever fresh fruit you want that day on top. Even vanilla will be much better than store bought, you'll be surprised.

Ya gotta go for the Blue Moon, especially if there are kids involved, they seem to get a kick out of eating blue ice cream. There should be some recipes out there. Blue Moon is currently kinda stuck as a northern / midwest thing, but if we can get you guys down there addicted to it maybe it will catch on in a bigger scale and be easier for everybody to find. It's kind of a fruity flavor.

6 eggs
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 qt 1/2 & 1/2
2 T Vanilla
1/2 t salt

Mix this mixture in mixer till sugar disolves, pour in freezer fill to line about 3 inches down from top, may be more or less

To make fruit use only egg whites, and amount of fruit needed for desired flavor, we use about a qt to qt 1/2 made into puree.

Nostalgia Electronics (never heard of them) and makes up to a gallon at a time.

Me neither, might be a good one though. The recipe I gave is the one we made when I was growing up, I cran out 6 qt at a time in about 10 min. I crank fast though. Can't remember brand but is a triple action.
