I have a 1980 johnson 35hp on a v bottom aluminum my prop has a crack in one of the blades and I need a new one what type or pitch etc. should I get to achieve max performance? I am pretty shure the one on it is aftermarket I could find no marking of any sort.

Re: need a prop

We'll need to know what that one is so we have a starting point. We'll also need to know if that one performed correctly.

Re: need a prop

I found the numbers under the nut finally. it say's Michigan 012056 and I found a second crack I wonder how long they have been there. As far as performance I have so many issues with this motor I have been working on. The first year I had it out I stripped out the lower unit when a thrust bearing went out took me a while to fix that but I have never been able to get the boat on a plane but I just thought it was underpowered but the more I read here it appears I may not be getting up to full open throttle so I guess I can work on that next. find out if I am running on just one cyl. or not. I have a sputter/chug every 15 sec or so. plus I need to check the points, compression etc. alot of work needs to be done first before I guess before I go changing anything with the prop. I was just concerned with the crack in the prop. This boat was my dads and he said it never had a problem getting up on a plane. So I need to do some work.
