I picked up a 1997 Mercury 8HP 2-stroke short shaft. It does not have a prop on it so I have nothing to go by. My buddy has a 92 Merc 8hp with a 9" prop and 9" pitch. When buying a new prop Im looking for top speed. I have searched and found several prop options. I have decided to go with an aluminum prop because I do a lot of fishing in shallow water. I have a 12' aluminum v-hull. The ramp I use is about 5 miles from my fishing spot so I want something to get me there as fast as I can safely. I know different sizes and pitches result in different rpm and performance. Does anyone have advise as to the best prop? 3 blade or 4? Is top speed prop safe or even smart in my situation? I dont want real poor handling or be unable to idle down. I dont usually troll, more of a pick a spot and float down so It doesnt need to idle too low but I dont want to rev the crap out of it to move. No search is bringing up info on my motor. Please help!!!
