I bought a 1993 Astro Fish and Ski, with a 150 Merc. on the back. I was told it needed a new water pump, but that was all that was wrong with it. It is my first boat, I was stupid and gullable, and fell for it. Turns out the motor is in pretty rough shape, but I think it is fixable. It's gonna need some machining work, and some new pistons and rings. I can't afford the $92.00 per hr the Merc. Mechanics want, but the machining work is over my head, and it would be my first attempt at working on an outboard. Do any of you know of a trustworthy Mechanic in or around the dallas area? Or anywhere I could find a reliable used motor. I'm new to the whole boat ownership thing, but I know there has to be other people besides the dealers out there to deal with.

Thanks,
The New Guy

I used to have a number in my phone of a machining company that had a machine shop but also advertised to do outboard machining also. Its not actually a marine mechanic and all they would be able to do is machine / bore your cylinder chambers.

I am pretty sure they would be substantially cheaper in at least doing that.

I dont have my phone on me, but I will check and see if I still have the number and post on here.

I believe it was in Garland though.

That would be good. I actually live in Terrell. Garland is no problem.

Thanks
