I need some help in identifying my current project boat, a flathead catfishing boat for the Cape Fear River, here in NC.
I have been told all kind of things about what it is and all the folks trying to help have been wrong so far!
It's not a Whaler, McKee Craft, etc. from all of the pics I have seen over the last 6 mo. or so.

The boat has little if any ID on it at all. The only identifying nameplate is port side, aft and is partially missing / broken.
All that there is on either side where a name plate would be is 3 letters and a partial... "Pen..." see attached pic.
All it could be is a "Penn Yan", from a list of know boat manufacturers I saw, but I can't find any information or pics of anything even close to what I have.
Coast Guard plate has the following info: Rated for 60 HP , 5 persons or 1,355 lbs.
Here is what I know for sure:
Fiberglass Tri-hull , 14' - 7" overall length, stern to bow - 65" wide at transom and 70" wide at gunwales, amidship.
It has 2 small, 17" wide raised side platforms at rear corners by transom.
It's 6" wide at top gunwales and are "open" underneath amidships, port side has some cheezy rod or pole holders.
It has a small, low height front deck with a central compartment on the raised deck.
Ther is a small stbd. side console w/ 18" diameter stainless steering wheel. It has a wooden central deck.
It has aluminum, dual front bow rails that terminate on the bow with a gap of about 18".
Has a 1972 Evinrude 50 HP outboard on it, model #50273C /ser. #E06964, but not sure if it's the original motor or not.

Any and all help would be appreciated, as usual. Thanks.

The logo looks right for Penn Yan, can't help you with the boat.

Yep, I think it's a Penn Yan:

There's no HIN on the transom anywhere?

this, my friends, is how you ask for help to identify a boat. I wish I could help. What a great river rig and gl with your search.

Bumjelly here, Thanks to all.
I do agree, it has to be a Penn Yan but no matter where I have searched so far, no info, pics, etc. Plenty of really nice, older wood boats and even some fiberglass, of which all of those are much bigger boats.

I had looked high and low for the HIN anywhere on the boat and if there is a HIN, it's buried under layers of paint and possibly under a fiberglass repair, who knows. If I knew of a specific location / area in which to look, it might be worth the trouble.

I guess the next part of this adventure will be with the NC Wildlife Commision Department as I have recently found the old boat #'s / registration ID #'s, but the informaton in regards to any previous owners is not available at the NCWC website.
I believe this boat went through 2 or 3 "owners" who did not have proper paperwork of anykind for the sale or transfer of ownership for this boat.
We'll see what happens...
