Need a Little Advise

I replaced the old cork float on my old see bee. I want to pull it back out and coat it with a fuel proof laquer or paint to prevent it from rotting again. What should I use on this.

Model airplane "Fuel proof dope" from the hobby store. Some people use gel Super Glue. I have used the dope but not the glue.
