Does anyone have a bearing carrier removal tool for a 1991 Mercury XR4 that they want to sell?

Or know how to procure one?

The bearing carrier removal tool is #91-73688 according to the shop manual.

Much thanks,

After removing the prop and carrier nut place to flat pieces of 5/16 " metal across the mouth of the lower unit then with the plates in place put a old prop on the shaft a spacer (we use a old style prop with the spacer washer turned upside down) place the prop nut back on the shaft and tighten it to pull the carrier loose.

Much thanks for the advice!

This is a good way to pull the bearing carrier instead of buying a specialty puller per the factory manual. I will use your method to get the bearing carrier out.

However, I am sorry as I was not clear in my original post that I first need the tool to remove the bearing carrier cover nut. I have made tools for small engines, but this cover nut is pretty large. Is there a clever way to get the cover nut off too?

Thanks again for the help.

You will need that tool, not only for removal but to get it tightened back up

If it's a stock XR4, it's a smaller bore than a standard V6 lower. I borrow a homemade wrench made for an inline 6 from a friend. It was made from a piece of pipe, turned down a little and notched on a mill. It works fine.
