need a answer on a pice hooked to my mag

ok on a 1966 evinrude sportfour V4 60 hp
there is a switch that on the side of the mag but there is no wires run to it
i need to know what it is for it has 2 flat terminals and a butt ion that gets
pressed on a certain point on the mag

That is the starter safety switch. It prevents you from starting the motor in gear with a high throttle setting and pitching you out of the boat or running over the dock...or a swimmer. It connects to one of the small terminals on the starter solenoid. IF somebody hasn't put a car solenoid in there. In that case, lookout everybody!!
