Hey Tarky,

Open your yellow pages and find a small welding shop near you. If you call enough of them I guarantee you will find what you need for a few bucks and get to know a local welder, a relationship that will prove invaluable one day.

Steel generally comes in 18' or 20' lengths and FYI aluminum in 21' lengths. A supplier will not want to cut a small piece off and have an odd size piece laying around waiting for the right person to come along.

The welder will probably have it in a scrap bin.

Good Luck and welcome to the best boatin, fishin site on the web! Bar none! 4 out of 5 Dentists choose iboats - gotta be good!

:D

I would go to your local iron and metal yard. They will have many guages of new steel tubing, angle iron , and flat steel, at a cheap price. For a short piece you may find some in the scrap heap and just pay per pound.

That where I get all the steel I use for all my hobbies. Trailers, boats, deer stands, hitches.

Arlan
