Is there any way short of selling and buying a new one, of getting 20 hp from my honda 4-stroke bf 15 ? It really is not quite enough power for my cs j-14 skiff. The motor can't move this boat.I've tried 5 props and can't get above 3500 rpms.

i have a honda 20 four stroke and the only difference i can tell is that the 20 has a larger carburetor. bore and stroke are the same. so i would maybe try a carb off of a 20. that would be way cheaper than buying another motor. you didn't mention the year of your outboard. mine is a 2006.

btw. i also run the bfp 4 blade prop on my 20. that also seemed to help me since i'm pushing a 18 foot pontoon boat. incidently the lower unit on the 15 and the 20 are the same. ONLY difference in the specs is the carb,

Thanks for that info. I have a 4 blade 9.25 x 7 on it now and I'm not getting the rpms. I wonder if there are any Honda Mechanics out there that will confirm the carb is the only diff. I wonder if the carb would bolt right on ??:^ BTW the engine is a 1999

Hard to believe a sound 15 can't reach max rpm on that size boat. What type hull is it and what do you carry?
Have you checked your compression?
It would seem that size boat with one person would be able to reach 20 to 25 mph.Something is up with the motor or the boat.
Have you verified the tach? Do you know the speed
by GPS?
