Just finished trying out my new Eagle FishElite 500 GPS/FF unit. Overall a nice unit in the 500-600 price range. I primarily fish the Galveston bay complex with an occasional off shore trip. I'm familiar with GPS operations and Computers and like the ability to create my waypoints, trips from the PC. The map is my sticking point here. I like the look and detail of the navionics gold products but don't understand how I could use it with a PC product for trips and waypoints and symbols. One option is the MapCreate Software but I can not get a good feel for map quality as it relates to bays and near shore items. MapCreate talks about alot of land based items (streets, hunting areas, lakes, etc) but not shoreline, inshore navigation, obstructions, wrecks and reefs. Anyone have experience with mapcreate? Anybody use navionics gold with some other software for trip and waypoint management?

Your Help is always much appreciated.

Thanks,

snagroms,
My usage is limited to inland reservoirs, have not used it in the deep blue sea. I have Map Create 6 which is upgraded to ver# 6.2 via free Lowrance download. It shows the general, rudimentary outline of the reservoirs I fish but little/no detail. Other than preventing you from getting lost, I don't see much benefit. It is primarily land based and offers very little in regard to marine applications.

Re: Navionics vs. MapCreate Experiences

The new version of Map Create is more of a Topo version upgrade. Everyone in the software biz is scurring to make theirs the "best" detailed fishing map there is. I bought a new LCX26C HD with all the software include in the unit. As far as I know you can't use Navionics on your table top PC. So I am still sexperiementing with it. Do a Google for map create software, I also got a copy of Fugawi, it seems to have more detail than MapCreate.

lee
