Navigation and Courtesy Light questions

Hey guys, just bought a 2006 176CC with a 2005 Mercury 90HP 4 stroke on a 2005 Road King Trailer. This was a boat I found on the internet where a guy was getting a divorce and had it on consignment at Marine Max in Gulf Shores. Had the dealer who was selling the boat hook it up to the computer along with a compression test and all came out fine and the boat runs GREAT!

However...
My navigation light on the front is not working. I replaced the bulb and that did not work. I don't think I'm getting power there. On the dash where I flip the Nav switch, it's not lighting red like it does on the other switches. When I look under the dash, there's 8 "prongs" for various wires to hook into. 4 on the left and 4 on the right like this and I'll label them 1-8 so I can describe what I saw:
Position #

1 5
2 6
3 7
4 8

They all have wires attached to these prongs except position 6. IS this spot supposed to be "open" or is it possible a wire became detached and simply needs to be reconnected? If this is not enough info, I'll take a pic and post it tonight or tomorrow after work and we can go from there. Figured this might be something real quick and maybe I missed a wire somewhere. The rear light works (the white all around one that you "plug in" on the stern).

The second question is to do with the courtesy lights that run in the back. One works the other doesn't. Replaced the bulb in the nonworking one and it still doesn't work. It did look like a little "green" material was on the bulb i removed indicating corrosion I would imagine. These are 12V bulbs.

Any help to get me started would be great.

Re: Navigation and Courtesy Light questions

Can't help you with the Nav switch because I've not seen the need for an eight terminal version and without a schematic, it becomes one about four or five possible wiring schemes. As for the courtesy lights -- if replacing a bulb does not fix the problem, the obvious problem is power is not reaching the socket or the socket is shot. Use a test light or meter to verify you do or do not have power at the socket. If not, follow the wire back to the switch as it is probably disconnected or broken somewhere along the line. The socket also needs a ground connection so that wire too can be disconnected or broken somewhere along the line. It is obviously not a fuse if the other light works.

like Silvertip said, ya need to get a meter or tester. You might be going to a lot of trouble when it is only a bad bulb. The Running lights are wired up together. When the running lights are on you should have the Bow lights (red & Green) and the stern light on. When the anchor light switch is on you should just have the stern light on. Test the bulbs and if they are good trace the wires back to the switch and see if there is powere there. The other light is pretty much the same. Take the bulb out of the one that works and see if it works in teh other socket. Test on teh back side of the socket to see if you have power. "spend a little money, save a lot of time" Get a tester.
