Everybody swears by these Mobster tabs. So, I'm now ready to give em a try.
Not sure how long they will last due to "everytime I'm on the lake, my boat will wind up stuck on top of of a stump", but, I'll just try to be more carefull.
I have a 98 Skeeter (transom design can be seen really clear on skeeters website).
From looking at pics of bass boats with tabs on them, I don't have the transom area/room to install the shocks.
I guess the question is...Can I install these just to each side of the pad? Closer to the middle of the transom than most pictures show.
In theory, that's about the only place they could still touch the water when running WOT...
Discounting "theory", that's about the only place I see where there might be enough room to install that shock.

Re: NautiJohn, Mobster Tabs, help?

A question if i may, will smart tabs help correct a boat from porpising? Better asked on the bottom of my boat there is a built in lip (dips down to the water perhap's 1/4-1/2 of inch)
it is @ the edge of the bottom and of course and is very effective.

In smooth water it will not cause any problems, but in 12" swells it will really slam the bow back down. I am used to a boat getting on top of swells and skimming over them.

The boat is a 17 ft open bow starcraft, it does have a semi deep v and is a 93 vintage. As i type this it make's me wonder if the tab's will only increase the issue.

Tail Gunner;

Apparently your boat is aluminium, and the bottom of the hull extends past the transom (common design). They sometimes use this "lip" to put a hook in the hull by bending it down to correct either porpoising or a torque list to port from the prop rotation.

In effect this is a permanent change in the hull surface and gives constant lift to the stern. The faster the boat speed the more lift. Not a good thing when cruising. I am not at all surprised that the boat slams down in heavier seas.

The trim tabs are deployed at speeds below the minimum plaining speed to minimize bow rise and provide a much slower plaining speed. Handy in rough water. when at cruising speeds the plates are pushed up by the water pressure, and the stern lift is them limmited to the actuator load and no more, regardless of the boat speed. This added lift is adjustable so that the ride can be tuned to the individual boat characteristics.

The overall effect is beyond your immagination, and beyond my ability to explain the improvements you will experience. That sounds like a mouth full I know but it is accurate.

If you deside to try them you will need to flatten the lip so that it has no downward deployment. You can also attach the trim tab hinge to this lip instead of drilling into the transom.

The porpoising will be eliminated and the handling in rough waters will be sigfnificantly improved. And that is only the beginning!
