National Fishing Emergency!!

I heard a report on the radio this morning about a non-native species accidentally introduced to the Potomac river in Maryland and Virginia that is threatening to literally destroy the bass fishery there. It's called a Northern Snakehead. They feed voraciously, reproduce prolifically, spawning up to five times a year, and can survive out of water for several days. In China they often migrate between bodies of water by "walking" from puddle to puddle.

I swear I am not making this up!

My idea is this: let's mobilize all the nation's fishermen & women to converge on the site and exterminate this threat by rod & reel.

Who's with me?

Heard the report myself this morning; sounds like a horrible fish. Exotic species need to be eradicated as soon as possible.
We have the same problem with the "northern pikeminnow" (formerly called squawfish), an introduced species that preys on salmon and steelhead fry.

And yes, the answer is the fisherman: see the official website http://www.pikeminnow.org/ You get $5 per fish for the first 100 fish caught, $6 for fish 101-400, and $8 for every fish caught over that. The money comes from a consorteum of power companies, the BPA and the federal government.

And yes, there are a few folks who get halfway decent incomes (over $25K/year) just for fishing for trash fish!

I have read the posts but this is the first thread that actually shows what they look like. Ugly evil looking things arent they? Funny idea about all us fisherman exterminating these creatures. I have troubles exterminating just one walleye when I go fishing. I hope this stays isolated and does not spread. Thanks for posting the link to the pictures.
